Support Jay who's facing cancer for the 3rd time in less than 2 years. With her 4th surgery happening her family need our help.
Silverdale, Auckland
In Sept 2023 our beloved Jay was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer that had spread to her liver. Over the next 11 months she went through 12 rounds of chemo, a liver resection, emergency bowel stent and finally a bowel resection. Her surgeon was happy that he'd got everything with good margins. Time to recover, but sadly the journey didn't end there.
June 2025 brought more rough news when a rising CEA indicated more cancer. After a PET-CT it was confirmed more surgery was required to remove a tumour on her ureter.
Finding CEA was still rising in Dec 2025, another PET-CT found cancer had found its way into her peritenial cavity. She just couldn't catch a break!
Jay now faces major cytoreductive surgery in Hamilton — a complex 10–12 hour operation to remove all visible cancer, followed by heated chemotherapy (HIPEC) delivered directly into her abdomen during surgery. She will need up to two weeks in hospital and a long road to recovery ahead.
Jay has been unable to work for over two years, placing significant financial strain on the family. Shane, who has served in the Navy for over 36 years, has been supported with time to care for her, but rising living costs, travel, accommodation, and time away in Hamilton will add further pressure. Any support for our gorgous friend, no matter the amount, will help ease the burden and allow the family to focus on Jay’s recovery.
Jay is one of my closest friends.
