Jays Updated Cancer Journey!

Almost 2 years have passed since Jay was diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal BRAF V600E cancer, with BRAF being the most aggressive form of colorectal cancer. Since Jays first givealittle page, so much has changed. Jay is now raising her 3 children as a solo mum, while still continuing to face the daily reality of living with incurable cancer.

Jay is currently taking a break from chemotherapy to give her body time to recover before she will need to resume the treatment at a later date. During this time, she was forced into making a difficult decision after a funding cut off: continue chemotherapy or begin targeted therapy. While Jay has been granted a compassionate supply of Cetuximab by the drug manufacturer valued at $203,000, the treatment can only be given along side Encorafenib, which required a one off cost of $46,000 in Feb 26. Because Pharmac does not fund Cetuximab for Jays treatment, it must be administered privately at a cost of $2000 per fortnight. Without funding for both medications and the administration, this potentially life extending treatment remains out of reach.
