Help Jessica [jessicah] get to the Google Summer of Code 10th Anniversary Summit on behalf of Haiku, Inc.
Nationwide
Due to ongoing long-term medical issues, I am currently unable to work. Prior to losing my job, I had been signed up to represent the Haiku software project at the 2014 Google Summer of Code Reunion Summit. However, currently, I cannot afford to attend due to a lack of income, and Haiku will end up with only one representative instead of two.
Whilst Google are kindly covering the bulk of the costs, the stipend provided to Haiku to cover the costs of airfares is insufficient for the both of us, as travelling to the US from New Zealand is costlier than many other countries.
Google Summer of Code is a high profile event that sponsors students to be mentored by open source organisations, and the summit is an all-expenses paid trip [typically, see above] by Google for mentors to get together to celebrate the achievements that open source communities have made through this partnership with Google.
Haiku is a new open-source operating system that specifically targets personal computing. Inspired by the BeOS, Haiku is a fast, efficient, easy to use and lean open source operating system that specifically targets personal computing. It is also the name of the project that develops and promotes Haiku the operating system.
Haiku is a project that has been going strong for approximately 15 years, and as a project maintainer for Haiku, I very much love doing everything I can to help make the project a success.
This is also the 10th anniversary of the Google Summer of Code, and having a stronger Haiku presence this year will help spread the word of Haiku among the open source community, and demonstrate that the project is definitely alive & kicking, and still has a lot to offer.
