Please help John and his family fund the only remaining treatment option for his extremely rare appendix cancer.
Upper Hutt, Wellington
In January of 2021, John Moore was diagnosed with an extremely rare cancer, appendix cancer – literally one in a million. I’m his daughter, Bonnie, and along with his wife of many decades, my mum Amanda, we hope to raise money so that everyone who loves John can have more time with him.
We are appealing to John’s friends and family to help us afford the only treatment option still remaining, Avastin (Bevacizumab) and capecitabine. These drugs are not publicly funded. We are paying for six cycles of treatment (which will cost $35,092) through the Bowen Icon Cancer Treatment Centre in Wellington, but it may end up being as much as twelve cycles. John begins treatment this November; without it, he has months rather than years to live.
John has been stoic and brave in the face of this ordeal, still working six hours a day as a baker at PaknSave and as the union representative. In early October, John finally had to stop working, saying goodbye to forty years as a baker. Since 2021, he has undergone several operations including a hemi-colectomy and a liver resection, with over 17 schedules of grueling chemotherapy. Unfortunately, the appendix cancer returned this year and metastasized to his liver, lungs and adrenal gland.
John has survived almost 4 years with this cancer. He is greatly loved by many people and has always been the honest, reliable and loving backbone to our family. We need this amazing guy to be with us longer. Please help us.
I'm his daughter, and this fundraiser is put together by myself and his wife/my mother Amanda.
Unfunded drugs that will delay or halt the progression of his cancer, Avastin (Bevacizumab) and capecitabine, as well as the administration costs associated with receiving treatment.
