Join us in Rallying behind Roland Meyer in an Active Hour and a Bit.

Queenstown, Otago

We are delighted to announce The Roland Meyer Active Hour And A Bit. Roland has nominated the Lakes District Hospital Foundation as his beneficiary, a charity to which he has generously given his time as Trustee.

The only thing that beats Roland’s drive to be active is his amazing dedication to his patients. Many of us recall arriving at 7 am to beat him to the ward round - only to find he had kayaked from Sumner, run to the hospital, seen everyone, and finished the paperwork before the sun had even come up. Shortly after learning of his pancreatic cancer Roland and Valerie were cycling up Mt Ventoux one of the toughest climbs on the Tour de France. This is the man who completed the 250km Marathon des Sables on one functioning hip. All of which is insignificant compared to the decades he has put in to care for a huge number of people we are humbled by his dedication and passion.

We invite you to be active any time over the weekend of 2/3 Sept for an hour - and a bit. How much of a bit is up to you minute is fine, but the sky’s the limit. Choose your activity a walk, run, cycle, 61 minutes on a pogo stick, solo or as; a team just get to it and enjoy.

Feel free to tell us what you did / how long for. It isn’t a competition (if it was, Roland would undoubtedly win!). Send us your photos and videos and we’ll happily post them. Please join us in showing love and support for Valerie and Roland, any way you choose, over the weekend of 2/3 Sept we look forward to hearing from you!
