Help with Jordan's fight against stage 4 glioblastoma (multiforme) giloma
Auckland
Hi all,
If you find yourself here you have probably heard about what is going on for Jordan at the moment. This page is simply a way to help out. There are tough times ahead and as Jordans family rallies around him anything we may be able to offer will help to ensure both him and his family are comfortable while Jordan works to fight through this testing time in his life.
Below is an update Jordan posted to FaceBook to keep his family and friends updated:
"Hey guys,
I thought i'd just let you all know whats been going on for me over the last little bit. So early in October i began having severe headaches with nausea and vomiting and as typical bloke i thought i had the man flu real bad. However the pain became unbearable and i knew something wasn't right. I went to the GP to get some stronger pain relief and anti nausea medication and was advised I likely have something viral or perhaps viral meningitis, which treatment is just rest and pain relief.
My symptoms continued and so I was admitted to Middlemore and had a CT scan which showed an abnormal growth in the frontal lobe of my brain. I was then transferred to Auckland Hospital neurosurgery team and had further scans which confirmed that i have a 5cm tumour which appeared to be cystic and was suspected to be benign. Due to the pressure the tumour put on my brain i developed double vision which I found super difficult to deal with. The plan from there was to have surgery to have it removed on November 1st.
Surgery went extremely well and I woke up feeling a whole lot better and with normal vision. I have felt great since and completely free from headaches. My MRI scan showed a positive result and the doctors were happy with my progress and that they had removed the tumour. I was discharged after my OP within 4 days which was a positive sign.
The Samples were taken from the tumour and sent to the laboratory to find out what exactly the tumour was and if it was anything sinister. Sadly i got some devastating news yesterday which was not what I was expecting and it has been an absolute shock. I have been diagnosed with a stage 4 glioblastoma (multiforme) giloma which is very serious and is considered a malignant brain cancer. My treatment involves 6 weeks of radiotherapy along with chemotherapy. Thankfully this treatment is not too taxing on the body and I won't be needing IV chemotherapy so I still keep all my hair and won't be hooked up to a drip all day.
I have heard many positive outcomes from people who have battled this and survived so I am hopeful and feeling positive I can beat it.I am going to battle it with everything I have. I also am very blessed to have an abundance of support and love from family and friends. I am completely overwhelmed by all the support. I am also so grateful for the expert care and knowledge of the neurosurgery team and nurses that looked after me in hospital. I am grateful for their absolute dedication, passion and care.
Thank you for all the positive vibes, prayers and support.
Jordan"
If you are able to contribute anything I am sure he and his family will appreciate it. Although recently graduating with a Bachelor of Nursing, Jordan is unable to work and his mother Sandra has put her work and life in Christchurch on hold to find a place locally in Howick to stay with, assist and support Jordan through this time. These funds are to help Jordan and his family with things like day to day expenses and helping with rent, through to being a little extra fund they can use to get out with family and friends. Jordan took a little convincing to allow us to set this up for him, but if there was ever someone we want to be able to help through such a testing time in any way possible it is Jordan. He's an amazing friend and we will be with him as he fights this with everything he has.
All of you who know Jordan will know him as a giver not a taker. As it is, it took a group of his friends to convince him to let us set this up for him, and with his (slightly begrudging) blessing, we have done just that. Jordan is a great friend and always the first to put his hand up to help someone else out, now its our turn.
