Help Josephine become NZ's first Tricuspid Heart Valve replacement recipient.
Wellington
Josephine (Jo) Gaeta has been diagnosed with Tricuspid Regurgitation (TR) which is a disease caused by a leaky valve on the right-hand side of her heart. Doctors here in NZ, as well as many around the world, tend to not treat this valve, as open-heart surgery is deemed too high risk
If left untreated, heart failure is inevitable.
Through massive research the family have found a doctor who can perform a Tricuspid Valve Replacement, via a trans catheter procedure.
The procedure is very advanced and highly technical, though non-invasive.
Mrs Gaeta (Jo) will not only be the first in NZ but one of the first in the world to undergo this procedure outside of its clinical trials.
This link shows you the procedure in brief.
Jo will lead the way for hundreds of thousands (if not millions) around the world that suffer from TR, as modern medicine and technology brings us closer to non-open-heart surgeries.
For this to happen, Jo will need to travel to Toronto, Canada to undergo this procedure. Unfortunately to add more distress, no insurance company will cover any costs involved with this.
We hope that together we can raise enough funds to get Jo the much-needed help that she desperately needs.
Please show Jo that good things do come back to good people.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Josephine is my mother
The Heart valve, the operation (doctors fees), the hospital costs, accommodation and travel costs to get to Canada and back home. If the goal amount is not met, the amount raised will be dedicated to the above in the order it is written.
NZ Herald article on Josephine 21 November 2023
Hi all, this is letting you know that this coming Saturday (25th of November) the NZ Herald will be running a story on our amazing mum. This will be a must read with interviews from both here in NZ and from Canada where the procedure was performed. For obvious reason they have asked for us to re-open her give a little page.
