Justice for Kaea

Hawke's Bay

A Mother's and Father's worst nightmare, on the 11th May 2025, Mothers Day, Ren and Kym woke to the worst news imaginable any parent could receive. Kaea Loughlin Karauria their 15 year old son was tragically killed and are yet to receive the answers to how this happened. The death of Kaea remains at the centre of a homicide investigation & news all around the world. Kaea was looking forward to celebrating his 16th Birthday on the 01 June 2025.

Kaea was only 15, an aspiring and inspiring Rugby Player, a brother to Manaia and Ihaia, a Moko, a Nephew, a Cousin, a dedicated team mate and a friend to many. He had the whole world ahead of him and gave his everything to the world. He didn't deserve this and his whānau deserve answers.

Both Ren and Kym work hard for their 3 boys and they dedicate their lifes to looking after everyone and making sure everyone else is ok. It's now our time to look after them.

Thinking of Kaea and your whānau each day. Ren and Kim, you carry your grief with mana honouring your boy with courage and love, showing the way for others who walk this path. Though I could not be at the hīkoi, from Auckland I watched the reels, so beautiful, the aroha flowing for Kaea. I see my own son in him: the same age, the same sports and perhaps even crossing paths in Rotorua Maori League tournament. Thank you for allowing us to share your journey. Your mamae is not carried alone; Aotearoa holds you close. xxx
