Justice for Tu'imala Uinise Paluvava'u Pauline Fulivai

  • Tuimala's case remains - unresolved *Tonga Police

      4 April 2023

    We enquired to the Tonga Police on the 25th of January - following their recent and ONLY public statement on Tuimala's case, sharing our disappointment and frustrations with their processes and statement. We specifically asked if the case was closed (that's what their statement implies) and the response from the Tonga Police contact person for the family advised the following statement;

"I can confirm that the investigation is still ongoing and we still waiting for fire investigation report from the reviewing phase and because investigation is still on going, we cannot release the report and evidence at this stage. I also want to mention that since the family’s lawyer step in and represent the family our contact point was shift to Tonga Police lawyer as we believe that it is more appropriate."

Since then, both Tonga Police and the NZ Consulates' office in Tonga have not responded or engaged with us further.

Ongoing inquiries from us were made in February and March and no responses have been received.

We would appreciate any help from the Tongan Authorities to get closure on Tuimala's case.

  • 16 Day Activism - against Gender Based Violence in Tonga - 25th November 2022

      5 December 2022

The Women Children and Crisis Centre in Tonga took a Solidarity march in tribute of our sister Tu'imala Uinise Paluvava'u Pauline Fulivai. They hosted a heartfelt event, and shared our tribute to our sister from my husband, Dibor Isamu Fulivai for our little family. We thank the wonderful team at WCCC Tonga and especially, 'Ofakilevuka Guttenbeil-Likiliki for your caring approach to holding our words safe in your space.

Thank you #wccctonga for safeguarding our taonga and aroha for our sister.

This wonderful organization in Tonga, has been championing women and children abuse and the lives lost due to it, for some time now. It just so happened that the passing of my sister-in-law falls on the month of an international movement of all women standing in solidarity for women's safety and voice.

    #25thnovember2022 #16DayActivism #genderbasedviolence

The team at WCCC has been so wonderful to deal with during this difficult time for us. Honoring her memory in a way that calls for Justice and awareness that women's lives MATTER in Tonga and elsewhere!

We are forever bound to our pursuit for her truth!

To all women and children who experience violence, know that you are LOVED.

    #deeply and #wonderfullymade

You must ACT and Speak up!

Our tribute starts at 1:09:18 and just sending all women groups worldwide, our love and support! We're behind you all!

  • NZ Tongan's March for Solidarity of #Justice4Tu'imala on Saturday 3rd December 2022

      5 December 2022
    Main image

A global Tongan movement of NZ Tongan #Justice4tuimala petitioners stepped up over the weekend, to stand up for Tu'imala by taking our voices to the NZ Tongan Consulates' office.

These petitioners raised substantial views for the safety of all NZ Citizens, visiting or residents in Tonga, and all Tongan locals and visitors must not be overlooked by local authorities. We've lost Tu'imala due to local injustices and we are still awaiting the relaunched investigation to come to close and provide us with answers to her death.

Thank you to caring people from various parts of the world who have supported our journey thus far. As her immediate family, who launched the legal inquiry into her death, we want to thank the PTOA NZ team for leading these grassroots efforts and standing with us in our plight.

All solidarity support is important to raise awareness of women and children in vulnerable situations in Tonga.

    Mau 'Ofa Lahi Atu
