We need your support for vulnerable workers who are exploited and ill-treated at work. Your donation will help expose and resolve the most horrific cases of exploitation. Many victims suffer in silence for years. Their lives are shattered. They are financially destitute. Many are suicidal. The worst crimes are mainly against migrants. But exploitation is colour blind.

As word spreads of our success, many more victims are emerging from the shadows. They tell us appalling stories of mental and physical abuse. Most are forced to work long hours for free. To keep their jobs, many are forced to borrow money to pass to their exploiters. Victims are controlled by blackmail and threats of deportation.

We are a non-profit and voluntary organisation. Just like every other campaign, we have ongoing running costs (rent, printing, utilities, legal costs etc) in order to win justice for victims. Many victims cannot afford to make a contribution to their legal costs. We help them anyway. We need to rely on your generous support to win them justice.

We work to win prompt justice for victims. Here is a sample of four cases showing the reality:

- A worker paid $15,000 to his employer to keep his job (some migrants borrow up to $50,000 to pay for their job). This young father worked 83 hours a week for three years. He was paid $400 a week. This employer has 53 employees in similar bondage.

- A major company received an almost $500,000 COVID wage subsidy. They made several workers 'redundant' with no notice or compensation. The company kept all the money and then hired new staff when the lockdown ended.

- Two workers are owed over $100,000 in unpaid wages. The owner used legal delays for two years. Three days before court, he "sold" the business to his son. He then liquidated the company to avoid legal accountability.

- A publically funded trust provided lodging to students. They were then required to work for free at trustee's businesses. Legal gag orders were imposed on the complainants. To avoid us, the head trustee pretends to be overseas. But he's hiding in NZ.

These cases are just the tip of the iceberg.

Many of the exploiter's lawyers successfully delay these cases, sometimes for years. Over time, the victim's health deteriorates. The stress wears them down and they just want to give in. Victims are pressured into signing confidential agreements for a fraction of what they are owed. The exploiter gets off scot-free. Help us fight this evil.

Use of funds

We are committed to using all donations wisely. No donations are used for salaries. Everything will go directly to One Union to pay for office running costs (rent, utilities, printing etc). Every little bit helps keep our phones and lights on. Thank you.
