Help our urban farm keep growing kai for our communities by supporting essential infrastructure for climate resilience.
Newtown, Wellington
Kaicycle is an urban farm, composting and community activation charity in Pōneke Wellington. We collect the city's food waste on bikes and turn it into compost. Our farmers use this compost to grow healthy veggies for local whānau. We also provide a space for our community to gather and learn how to grow kai. Kaicycle is modelling how to transform our food system, lock carbon in our soils, create green jobs, feed whānau and sprout a vibrant community greenspace in the heart of our city.
But good growing sites in Wellington are scarce. Farming our site isn't a bed of roses and climate change is making it harder. This winter, half our farm was under water. In summer, our farm manager is on farm seven days a week watering crops because our irrigation system is incomplete. It's been gutting to see our hard work to build healthy soil get washed away and the pressure on our farm manager Thom is unsustainable.
But the solution is simple. Extending our drainage and completing our irrigation system will save our soils and help make our farm more sustainable. The cost? Just $15k.
Help our farm turn over a new leaf this coming season by donating towards this essential farm infrastructure!
