Seeking assistance to put in 2 swimming pontoons at our beaches, as our pool is no longer viable after the earthquakes.
Marlborough
Following the Earthquake, not only did we lose our main swimming pool but with the Uplift in the seabed, our beaches have become more Family friendly, where before no-one swam, we now see regular swimmers of all ages and young "surfers" learning to surf.
We'd like to build 2 new pontoons with the sites proposed being Goochs Beach (the site of the old pool and in the heart of the township) and South Bay.
The pontoons will need to last at least 10 or more years so we need some sturdy material. ie alloy ladders (so as not to rust) stainless bolts and chains, a solid mooring and non slip decking, not to mention the floation devices... and the plan is to be able to bring it in if strong seas are forecast.
Kaikoura Building Centre (ITM), Dunlea products & the Kaikoura Mayoral fund have offered their support, all we need now is to get the community on board and help us raise that little bit more to make this item LAST, can you help bring this idea to our foreshores?

The money is needed for good quality parts and building materials that will withstand the test of the sea and hopefully make the pontoons last around 10 years.
Matt Chambers - builder for pontoon 23 February 2018
a huge thank you to Matt Chambers who has offered to build the pontoons for us. He is not only a builder but the owner operator of Seal Swim Kaikoura also, so if you're every coming to Kaikoura, his trips are well worth the time and money.... and yes, for those of you who need it, they provide you with wetsuits to keep you warm.
