Please support my sister and her new business in Kaikoura. She took over her new shop six weeks ago, Little Rock Kaikoura.
Canterbury
My sister Colette and her partner Victor are long time residents of Kaikoura. They have just returned to Kaikoura after a short break with Victor working for Dolphin Encounter and Colette buying her first shop Little Rock Kaikoura. The shop was buzzing and with a record summer tourist season expected she was looking forward to paying off her loan. Then of course the earthquake struck. She now has a loan, rent and rates to pay but no income. She has recently learned that she will after all be entitled to the government subsidy after all and is very grateful but it will only pay the wages, insurance and lease for 8 weeks from the quake day, then what? Unfortunately she doesn't have business interruption insurance as the cost at the time was prohibitive. Hindsights a wonderful thing but no-one expects a natural disaster. Her insurance for stock has a $5000.00 excess so no joy there.
She doesn't want to to give up her life and business in Kaikoura and just needs a hand to make it through till tourists can start coming back.
Any little amount you can give will help them survive, it's going to be a tough winter. Thank you very much for your support.
Im involved because this is my family. When the earthquakes hit here in Christchurch I was working week about as a midwife in Kaikoura. My sister Colette was an amazing support and helped me continue my work there. She took care of me so I could take care of the families in Kaikoura and provided a place for all of us to come and take a break. She can't take a break - they can't leave and abandon their community and business.
