We need your help to create a karaka tree warning signage and stick them all over Tauranga before they take another dog's life!
Bay of Plenty
Please, we need your help to create a karaka tree warning signage and stick them all over Tauranga.
The Karaka tree, a beautiful native tree, has big orange edible/palatable seeds attractive for dogs, but they are poisonous. This tree can be found EVERYWHERE in New Zealand, and EVERYWHERE in Tauranga.
Different Councils have signage in every park and high created awareness about this matter, including media communications, while here there is none.
I've requested Tauranga Council to put up signage, but they refused.
Therefore, I would like to do it myself before we have another victim.
Unfortunately, this tree got the first victim this year. Addie, a loving doggie, ingested a karaka tree seed during her walk with her family and died in Christmas' Eve.
These trees need signage in dog parks / off lead areas and awareness comms to dog owners as they are in every street of Papamoa / Mount Maunganui / etc.
Examples of where people has seen these trees so far:
-Aranui & Gloucester
-Papamoa Beach Road East, 200 mt before it ends.
-All of the Wairakei walkaway, from Parton to the Plaza. (off-lead!)
-A couple in the Stormwater Reserve, between Pacific View Road and Evans Road (off-lead!)
-Hartfort Avenue and Papamoa Beach Road.
The Karaka Tree seeding season goes from January till June. Our dogs are exposed without proper information!
The cost of the signage is around $10 for each one of them, and depending on how much money I get from this fundraising, I will print accordingly. Hopefully thousands! :)
Big thank you to Skite Digital Imaging in Papamoa who offered to do the design for free and print the signage at a very low cost.

If you google, you will find more information about how fatal this tree is:
THANK YOU!
Creating karaka tree warning signage and stick them all over Tauranga, like gardens, veterinarians, doggy day cares, etc.
Fundraising is still on! 6 March 2021
The more money we can raise, the more signs we can print and more lives can be saved!
