Please support the Karekare community to rebuild after the devastating impacts of Cyclone Gabrielle.
Karekare, Auckland
Karekare has been devastated by the impacts of Cyclone Gabrielle. There are many homes lost, many evacuated, huge precarious slips and damaged roads. Our isolated community is rallying together to try to rebuild but we could do with some financial help. There is a long road ahead. Karekare is a phenomenal place, one that has been forever changed. We are resilient and we will be back!
Funds will be managed, prioritised and distributed as agreed by the Karekare resilience network. First priority will be for reimbursing community members who have incurred hard costs as part of supporting the rebuild. Additional funds will be distributed in line with the Karekare resilience network community priorities.
I am a Karekare resident who is working with the Karekare resilience network to prioritise financial support for key community projects. The funds will be managed by a community based chartered accountant (Shelly)
Felling dangerous trees, clearing debris, animal welfare, petrol, equipment, essentials for the rebuild.
An update on Karekare Cyclone Recovery Fundraising 21 July 2023
We're really pleased to let you know that Auckland Transport approved the submission to remunerate our local road crew. This means a portion of GiveaLittle funds used to support this work has been reimbursed to the GiveaLittle page.
We are also able to announce that Kia Kaha Karekare has been approved for a $50,000 Red Cross Community Enable Grant. We are very grateful to the Red Cross for their support of our community.
The Red Cross will be working in partnership with AEM, Council Recovery, Healthy Waters and other government organisations to determine the distribution of resilience and future preparedness funds. We hope to be able to work with them to secure additional funding for the Karekare Resilience Network in this next tranche of funding.
With the high priority road access costs now covered, Kia Kaha Karekare will be consulting with the community on how to prioritise current and future GiveaLittle fund distribution.
Thank you so much for your ongoing support of Karekare’s cyclone recovery.
Kia Kaha!
