Karen’s HSCT journey to Mexico

  • An update from Karen

      25 April 2021

    Hi Guys

This will be my last FB update before I leave NZ and I will be starting my daily personal BLOG Karen's MS Journey to Mexico...

OMG sooo surreal but this time next week I will be in transit to Mexico🛫 Travel plans all confirmed with last minute change on Friday and have to come home via Houston & LA now. Have got a sky couch back to NZ🙏🏻 as wont be well and I can just sleep...

It has been a busy few weeks applying to MIQ for home isolation and just been turned down for the 3rd time. I will apply one more time to the ombudsman before I leave as have no one to do this once I leave on the 1st May. The TV One reporter who did my story is thankfully going to keep in touch by Skype, and keep trying with my home quarantine issue.

Thanks for everyone calling in at home with well wishes and support for me. And all our friends & family keeping an eye on Paul with his seizures while I am away, which has been a massive worry for me. But I know he will be in good hands. I can facetime message if feeling ok, but don't forget the time difference😂

Thanks for all your amazing donations to make this journey easier on me too..

    Much LOVE always

    KAREN💜💜

  • All booked!

      15 March 2021

    Hello everyone!

Just a wee update on where Karen’s at..

It’s been a roller coaster few weeks trying to get her plans into place. She was denied a medical exemption from quarantine, much to the surprise of her doctor and neurologist, however Karen has been assured they will meet her strict post-treatment requirements in quarantine. After this confirmation came the next hurdle of actually managing to book her spot in quarantine which has been stressful for Karen to say the least, however a few days ago so was finally successful and has booked her spot. Hooray! She’s now set to leave for Mexico on the 1st of May and begins treatment on the 3rd of May.

The next hurdles for Karen are working through her big to-do list and getting everything sorted for Paul while she’s away.

Karen’s so grateful to each and every one for all your donations, kind words and support. She would love you to keep sharing her story. She’s also been interviewed by Bay of Plenty Times about her battle with booking a spot in quarantine, hopefully online this week so keep an eye out for that. As always she’s sending you so much love and thanks. Xx

  • Delay update

      11 February 2021

    Hi everyone,

Planning Karen’s trip to Mexico during a pandemic is proving to be very difficult to say the least! Due to quarantine restrictions she’s had to delay her treatment to May. She’s still working hard to get everything organised and booked. She’s so grateful for all the love and support and has written this message for you:

I am overwhelmed by all the phone calls of LOVE & support since my first FB post....💕

This was really difficult for me to open up like this but I want to be real with you all. Every single moment of my life is a battle either extreme back pain, cramps/spasms, vision problems, loss of feeling/ strength, and unbearable fatigue.

This side of MS isn't shown often and I'm glad I can finally begin to make people understand what it's like to have a silent and slowly debilitating illness....

All of your amazing donations & sharing that has got me started with my journey to Mexico for HSCT...THANK YOU!!💜💙
