no medication, no treatment in NZ. I wish for Kate to live pain free for the rest of her limited years.
Christchurch, Canterbury
Our story began in March 2020, an accident left my wife, Kate, with pain in her neck and her spine, and as time passed, her symptoms worsened to the point where she started spending the majority of her day in bed and even struggles to sit through a meal sitting down with her family.
for the next 3 years, she has tried multiple different medications, trusting the doctors' words of giving it time, however not seeing any improvement. She has been to multiple different specialists including orthopedics, pain doctor, psychiatrist, and the neurologists, yet none have been able to diagnose her pain.
On top of that, with suspicions of a frontotemporal dementia from a CT scan in October 2021, she was officially diagnosed with dementia in the beginning of 2022. With a short life expectancy rate (less than 10 years), The least I could do for her is to at least relieve the pain she struggles with every day. She is only 54 years old. I believe the prolonged pain has caused unimaginable amount of stress on Kate, and that would've influenced the early onset of the dementia.
I still have hope that there is treatment available for my wife, I believe that going overseas to a more developed health care system would give her hope of living a pain free life. My multiple attempts of reaching out to the DHB for funding has been ignored and declined. And as a full time carer, I am unable to work to meet the funds myself.
