Katy needs life saving surgery urgently.

  • Maurice is now end of life care and my heart is broken

Reposting as the bottom half didn’t save on the first one.

When Maurice was in hospital last week for IV antibiotics for the UTI that wasn’t clearing up with oral antibiotics, he picked up a hospital acquired infection called c-diff (a diarrhoea bug).

He doesn’t have the reserves left to fight it and went back into hospital on Sunday. We were told yesterday the next couple days were critical however they were still treating him with antibiotics as there was still a chance he could turn the corner.

However he deteriorated significantly overnight and his kidneys have started failing and his body started shutting down so we made the decision today that Maurice is ready for end of life care.

He has fought so hard. He was diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer 7 years ago and terminal approx 3 years ago but has been relatively well until the 17th Feb when he got sepsis.

I’m not ready to lose the love of my life, my soul mate, the person who knows me better than any other person and loves me so much. We haven’t had enough time together but to be honest forever wouldn’t be enough time.

Maurice Lond, I love you baby.

Pic of our grandbabys just because taken today and because Maurice loves them so so much.

  • 2 weeks till surgery and Maurice is back in hospital with an infection

I fly out in 2 weeks for surgery and Maurice was only home for 18 days before being admitted back to hospital.

We had a wonderful Easter weekend celebrating with family and having extra quality family time over the next couple weeks.

Maurice has regained a little feeling in his legs (including shooting nerve pain).

Unfortunately he had two urinary infections in that time, the 2nd didn’t respond to oral antibiotics so Monday this week he was admitted back to hospital. A kidney ultrasound today was done to try find out why he is having these so frequently.

I am very anxious about leaving him in 2 weeks time as he keeps getting knock after knock.

I am exhausted, my pain is increasing and even yoghurt and soup is starting to cause pain. I had blood tests done yesterday and continue IV fluids 3x a week. I don’t want to end up on ensure only. Vanilla is the only flavour I like.

Please all can you keep our family in your prayers.

Photo of us in happier times before we became so unwell standing in the place Maurice proposed to me, reminiscing, me most likely laughing at something filthy he is saying. Only thing missing was the snowflakes gently drifting down around us. 🩷 It was beautiful.

It is so hard being apart.

  • Katy’s surgery is booked and Maurice is now Palliative

This is a really difficult update for me to write. We have tried to contact those close to us but as you all can imagine the last few weeks have been tough and busy with a lot to organise so I apologise if we have missed anyone and hope anyone doesn’t take offence.

Maurice was readmitted to hospital again after being home for only 3 weeks due to losing all feeling in and use of his legs. Scans showed spinal cord compression from rapid cancer growth. He had a dose of radiation with the hope it will give him some movement therefore some independence (this can take up to 6 weeks to take effect), but he may be permanently paralysed. We have been advised there is no more treatment available to him as his body is now too fragile and unwell to tolerate any. We were advised he needed to go into full time care however I refused this and we were able to get him home where he belongs the evening before Good Friday. Caregivers are coming into our home to support us and help care for Maurice especially with my limited mobility, increased pain and fatigue.

Now we are all about quality time and keeping him as well as we can for as long as possible.

I am booked for surgery in Australia on the 8th of May and will be gone for 17 days. It can’t be delayed any longer as I am becoming more unwell and the longer I wait the more chance surgery will be unsuccessful.

Any little bit helps and adds up and Maurice and I are grateful and thank everyone for sharing this or donating anything. Katy.
