Keep Te Whare Kahukuras Doors Open

$1,700 of $25,898 goal

This page is dedicated to supporting the mahi at Te Whare Kahukura, our dedicated rainbow community space in Central Hutt.

Lower Hutt, Wellington

Te Whare Kahukura is Te Awa Kairangi Hutt Valley's dedicated rainbow community space: a place where takatāpui, rainbow people and their whānau can connect, access support, health services and be themselves without having to explain who they are.

Like many small community organisations, Te Whare Kahukura relies on a mix of grants and community support. With changes being made in the world of funding for non profits - we are limited in our options for funding that can meet our essential operating costs.

The Whare currently provides:

- QueerCare peer support for young people every Wednesday

- Monthly sexual health testing

- Free identity affirming community wardrobe

- Rainbow library + community resources

- A welcoming physical space for takatāpui, rainbow people, rangatahi and whānau

- Connection to community, health + social support

Your donation helps us keep the building open, retain our community coordinator and continue providing these core services free to people who need them.

This campaign is our bridge, not our long term funding strategy. Alongside this appeal, our Board is actively seeking grants, partnerships and sustainable income for 2027 and beyond.

Raising $25,898 gives us the time and stability to do that work without closing the Whare in the meantime.

Whether you can give $10, $50, $500 or simply share this page, you're helping protect a dedicated rainbow community space.
