Kayaker KENSA to Youth Olympics

  • Update for 28/08/2014

      28 August 2014

Glenn and I are overwhelmed by the words of encouragement and the financial support that has been extended to Kensa. While we were hopeful that we may get close to her fundraising target we are blown away that it has been exceeded. With the extra funds Kensa will now be able to get an additional training camp in Sydney on the Olympic course. This will help her build towards her 2015/2016 goals. Thank you so much for your generosity and heart in making all of this possible for her. All the very best in your own future endeavours and if there's anything we can do to help ...lend you some gear....supply you with fruit...produce marketing material....do some babysitting... :) haha seriously though, please just sing out. Kindest regards, Maureen 0274 947 435.

Kensa has finished 9th out of 21 K1 women paddlers at the Youth Olympics in Nanjing. Her 2nd race qualified her for the top 16 where they battled it out for the top 8 to progress to quarter-finals. Unfortunately she missed the cut by 2 seconds. She was pleased she avoided mishaps on the starting ramp and with all 3 of her races being within 2 seconds of each other it confirmed that her final placing was an accurate indication of where her current abilities ranked her in the highly competitive field. While she was hopeful of a higher placing she's pleased with a top 10 finish. She is now relaxing and enjoying the final days of the event.

Getting close to race day now. Training going well and have had time and tips from both Lisa Carrington and Jess Fox. I have been to Nutrition and Chat with Champions Workshops which has been really cool. AN EXTRA BIG THANKS TO THOSE THAT HAVE DONATED ... YOU'VE HELPED US REACH OUR TARGET - WOW!!

Have had 4 training sessions now. Sprint boat is pretty tippy, but I know others are finding the same. I've practiced the seal launch off the ramp for the slalom race ... first few times were sketchy but I'm getting better :)
