Helping to give Kiara the Freedom of walking.
Canterbury, Selwyn District
When our granddaughter Kiara was born, we were told she might not survive. When she did, no one thought she would ever breathe on her own, feed herself, crawl, talk, or go to school. But she has achieved all of these milestones and more. She is truly our wee miracle. Now, at 8 years old, we want to help her take on her next challenge: walking.
Kiara was born with a rare condition called Sonic Hedgehog syndrome, which causes developmental delays, muscular disabilities, and hydrocephalus. She has already faced multiple brain and eye surgeries, two corrective hip surgeries, and countless treatments, but her determination and joyful spirit remain unbroken.
In April 2025, our journey to the Gold Coast for intensive therapy at the Centre of Movement was life-changing. The therapy helped Kiara make remarkable progress, giving her the confidence and strength to keep pushing forward. Fortunately, the Centre is now coming to Christchurch, so we no longer have to travel overseas. We have two sessions booked for 2026, costing around $13,000, and have paid $3,500 so far.
We want Kiara to experience the freedom of movement most children take for granted. With your support, through donations or by sharing her story,we can give her this opportunity. Every contribution, big or small, brings her one step closer to walking independently.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for helping us give Kiara the future she deserves.
I am Kiaras Nana.
The money will be used on paying for Kiaras Therapy at the Centre of Movement in Christchurch.
