Pain Relief for Boys

  • Week 3

      12 May 2015

We have managed to obtain a free trial of the massage bed, which we have found not to make a lot of difference to getting the boys to the point of going to school over the last 3 weeks. They have had some comfort from it getting to sleep at night and when they are sore it helps alleviate the pain, but not enough to get them to school which was our main goal in purchasing it. And as it looks like we will not be raising enough to afford it anyway, we have had to rethink.

We have decided that the best course of action for them was to look at fixing up our spa, and giving the massage bed back.

A very kind spa pool specialist came and assessed our pool for free, tried to find the leaks, (actually spent 3 hours working on it for free!!) and advised us that it was not worth spending any money on to repair.

We have sold it for $500 to add to your donations to get a new spa pool.

The spa pools that have the lounger and massage jets on the legs (particularly for Tim) are between $6-7000 by the time we get them delivered and installed.

The spa pool guy is looking out for something that would be cheaper and suitable in the meantime, but I thought I would let you know what we are up against, for the sake of total transparency.

Thank you all so much for your support. We appreciate you partnering with us to help our boys.

  • Week 2 Term 2

      3 May 2015

This week has been much the same as last week. On Tuesday (short week due to Anzac Day) Tim couldn't hold back and played hard at lunchtime.

He came home sore, but also with a cold which complicated matters. He has been off the rest of the week.

Benny managed a couple of half days this week, but that is all. Got to school in time for 3 tests. Fingers crossed he did ok.

Pain dominating their days but try to get them to do little things around the house to keep moving as much as possible, which is not much.

Will probably have to look at some school work being done at home, and arranging family meetings again. Such a pity there is not just some easy solution like a magic pill which makes it all easier again. Coming off pain meds has a big impact on their lives.

Hoping that the combination of massage bed and spa treatments will help each day. We will just have to push through either way!

    Hanging in there.

    Clare and Glen

  • Week one of Term 2

      25 April 2015

A massive thank you to all our friends and family who have donated. It can't come at a better time for us.

We have tried to limit the medications as suggested by the pain clinic this last week with tough results.

Tim made it to school on Monday, but overdid it by playing half a game of dodge ball last thing on Monday (We can't tie him down!!). He hasn't been able to get to school since. He has been able to walk to the bathroom and lounge and bedroom. I managed to get him to walk around the supermarket for 5 mins flat today (just to get him out of the house), but he is done now.

Benny started the week with a bit of a flu bug, but his pain has made it impossible to get to school all week.

In faith we have ordered the massage bed, and will use whatever money is here for a deposit, and hopefully to repair/replace our old spa too.

We are nearly a third of the way there for the bed, and so I encourage all of you to share this page and see if we can make it the rest of the way.

We are so humbled by your love and help. On behalf of the boys and Glen, thank you so much for your support.
