Help support my move to Melbourne as a proud Kiwi to study tuba at a world‑class level and take the next step in my musical career.
Ellerslie, Auckland
Who I Am?
- I am Kilian, an young aspiring musician who is working towards one day playing professionally in orchestras around the world
- I’ve performed with groups such as the National Youth Orchestra, NZ Secondary Students’ Choir, and the National Youth Brass Band.
- Highlights include NZYBB Most Outstanding Player and winning the 2025 Under‑19 Champion of Champions, being the first tuba player to do so in around 30 years.
What’s Next
- I’ve been accepted into the University of Melbourne to study under Tim Buzbee, one of the world’s leading tubists.
-This gives me access to a level of training and competition I can’t get in New Zealand.
Why This Matters
- My goal is to become one of the best tubists out there, and opportunities to train at this standard are rare.
- Studying in Melbourne gives me world‑class teaching, high‑level ensembles, and the professional development I need to reach that level.
What the Costs Look Like
- $11,000 per year in university fees
- $22,000 for accommodation
- Travel and instrument maintenance
- Professional development: workshops, masterclasses, NZSO NYO/AYO
- Saving toward a needed second professional tuba ($10,000–$20,000)
Why I Need Support
- My degree requires at least 5 hours of daily practice, plus ensembles and full‑time study, leaving limited time for paid work.
- Any contribution helps me focus fully on my training and take this next step without being held back financially.
Thank you for helping me get to Melbourne and continue growing as a musician!
towards subsidising my University fees, accommodation fees, and towards allowing me to attend professional development opportunities
