We are a group of students going to Kiribati to try and make a difference.
Auckland
We are a group of 14 students who are leading education in schools, raising awareness of the impact of climate change, sea-level rise and the associated solutions that villages and communities can implement.
Part of our application for this unique social action trip is to fundraise and propose more sustainable alternatives to assist the families and communities that inhabit these islands that are set to be the first to disappear within our generations life-time. We envisage that through meeting the local people, exploring the island and seeing first-hand the effects that climate change is having on Kiribati, we will be able to harness this new-found knowledge and make a real difference in social action.
Kiribati is a developing country with very few resources so by contributing resources such as books, stationery and clothing to local villages as well as donating time to tutor and teach groups or individuals in schools, we believe that we could ultimately instil life-long learning and will continue to campaign and raise awareness to the most significant issue affecting our generation.
Our goal is to raise $10,000 to fund a cargo container filled with an array of resources to benefit all elements of Kiribati society.
The funds we raised will be stored in our school's trust. Upon reaching our target, we will use $7,000 to fund the shipment of the cargo container to Tarawa. $2,000 for clothes and $1,000 for primary school pedestrian crossings.
Last final push to hit our target 22 February 2020
Now that we are back at school and leaving for Kiribati in 6 weeks, we are doing one final push for advertising through assemblies and chapels and our local community. We would ike to extend this page for 5 more weeks to coincide with our new surge.
