Chinese hospitals need all kinds of protective supplies, especially medical masks, protective suits and medical gloves.
Manawatu / Whanganui
On the 1st of February, at the Sunan Shuofang International Airport, Mr Zhang Xiaoming of Shenzhen Airlines, witnessed the transfer of masks and thermometers, donated by Xu Yuan, Chen Lili, Qian Hawick, Shen Xingxia, and Ji Lei (5 caring friends) to Wuxi Red Cross. These were then sent to Wuxi's Peoples' Hospital and The Fifth Peoples' hospital in Wuxi. These were to be used in the fight against Coronavirus.
The fight against Coronavirus has rapidly expanded around the world, creating a shortage of surgical masks and thermometers for use in hospitals. Countries are stockpiling their own supplies for combating this disease, so reducing the shipments of these supplies to other countries.
Xu Yuan and Chen Lili run a business in Wuxi. They are enthusiastic about public welfare. They are closely watching the situation on the front line of the epidemic. They know that masks are urgently needed in Wuxi Hospital. Xu Yuan and his old classmates, Hawick Qian, Shen Xingxia, and Ji Lei wanted to buy some surgical masks and thermometers and donate them to hospitals in Wuxi. Fortunately, Hawick (a permanent resident of NZ) on the way back to NZ from Hong Kong, managed to buy some surgical masks and thermometers in Hong Kong. The face masks bought, but how to ship them back to Wuxi easily? Due to the epidemic, Hong Kong was not releasing medical supplies, like masks and thermometers, back to mainland China. Xu Yuan and his friend were so anxious that they began messaging friends for help.
The messaging worked! Just when Xu Yuan was worried, Wuxi Red Cross and Shenzhen Airlines extended their help. Shenzhen Airlines announced free shipping of medical supplies to China. The friends' masks and thermometers met the requirements."
When Hawick Qian, who was still in transit, heard this, he went and purchased a second batch of materials. All of the supplies were then shipped to China!
The supplies easily cleared customs at Wuxi and they were distributed to the grateful hospitals.
Wuxi Red Cross was also grateful to Kiwi, Hawick Qian, who had packaged the supplies in his own suitcase, for shipping!
Find masks, buy them on the go, and try to send them back ... With the concerted efforts of the friends and the employees of Shenzhen Airlines in Wuxi, it took only 21 hours for the supplies to arrive in Wuxi.
"In this process, everyone is trying to come up with a hump route, which is very meaningful." Xu Yuan could not restrain his inner excitement. The "hump route" was a major air channel for China and its allies during World War II. Today, Xu Yuan likens the passage of medical supplies to the "hump route". "On the premise that all overseas materials sent to Wuhan and the Red Cross Federation, we have opened a customized direct line for Wuxi!" Xu Yuan said.
All donations will be used to purchase coronavirus supplies for the WuXi Lingshan Charity Foundation
