This is a personal plea... A plea to give hope to a village...

Nationwide

They don't need a handout but they certainly need a hand up...they are helping themselves and each other to give the next generation opportunities for a better future.

I have been working with and supporting KNGO, Khmer New Generation Organization for the past four years...When I first visited they worked from a tiny school house on the side of the directors home with a couple of computers... over the years they have given to their community in whatever form they can from distributing rice to the very poor and disabled right through to encouraging the youth to look after their environment. They have managed to raise funding for a new building with three classrooms and now have over 400 children that attend English, Maths, Khmer and Computer classes daily. Their main focus is on education however their funding source for this has recently ceased leaving them with a lack of funding, which is worrying for the future of this fantastic organisation...

This give a little campaign will go towards the immediate needs of keeping the school running however if you are interested in backing the school on an ongoing basis please feel free to get in touch.

HERE'S THE BACKGROUND...

Although Cambodia is a developing nation and there is increased business and trade in the country, it remains one of the poorest nations in South East Asia.Cambodians are still struggling to fully recover from years of civil war and genocide which completely destroyed social institutions, traditional culture and family values.

Although children and young people have the desire to improve their country and local communities, they often feel powerless in their ability to do so because they lack experience and sufficient education, as well as local role-models.

SO HERE'S WHAT KNGO ARE DOING ABOUT THIS...

Sun Saveth started KNGO, Khmer New Generation Organization ( www.kngocambodia.org ), with the aim to provide local children in his home village of Bospo with a good education in order to reduce poverty and help them to get better jobs in the future.

KNGO believes that their local community can be improved and empowered through educating the next generation. Their focus is on providing free schooling to supplement state-provided education in English, Computer skills and Mathematics. They provide classes for the most poor and vulnerable kids in the community, some of whom do not even attend the state school.

In addition to free schooling KNGO are passionate about their community and seeing a real reduction in poverty. They have recently opened a sewing facility for women providing them with new skills that they can use to create an income for their families. This is most important for women who have been widowed or do not have other means to provide for their families.

KNGO currently employs 4 full time and 7 part time teachers with 450 children from Bospo and surrounding villages utilising the free daily classes. About 90% of these children come from some of the poorest families in the area who rely on subsistence farming or daily-paid labour to provide for their families.

HOW CAN YOU GET INVOLVED...

Previously KNGO was funded by The Economist Charity (UK) and would rely on volunteers and tourists to help out with English classes where possible. Other individuals have supported in other areas including fundraising for resources and building materials. Unfortunately The Economist are unable to continue to provide funds to keep KNGO running so in the short term there is now a need to rely on private donors to keep teachers employed and children receiving free education. I am asking you to join me in supporting KNGO in whatever capacity you can...

Donated funds could be used to pay for the following things:

**Amounts quoted in USD

$60 can pay the wage of one part time teacher for one month

$120 can pay the wage of one full time teacher for one month

$200 will pay for equipment maintenance of our computer program and software updates

$900 can pay for all teachers for one month

$1000 will pay for stationary for all students for 1 year

$2000 will pay for teaching resources, membership fees to the National Education body and teacher training workshops

$11,000 can keep all teachers employed for one year

Thank you in advance! Please check out the KNGO website for more information www.kngocambodia.org or www.kngovolunteer.org

The little you give means a whole lot to KNGO!
