Help us give Koda the best care possible.
Ashburton, Canterbury
On Saturday 8th, I discovered a very large lump on Koda’s neck.
I rang the vets and managed to get a last minute appointment. They were as shocked as me with the size of the lump especially considering it had appeared overnight!
The Vets are thinking it’s an infection, so we’re treating it as such with medication.
But by Monday the lump had doubled in size. I rang the vets at 8:30am & managed to get us in at 9:30am.
They did all the regular checks on other lymph nodes, his temperature & overall health. They took him out the back to shave it, and get more samples out of it.
We were given two options: surgery to open the wound and drain it OR leave as is with the medication and follow up on Friday once the medication had finished. We chose surgery to try get as much gunk out of it as possible to speed up the healing process.
Unfortunately once he went under, they discovered the infection is much deeper than expected and 3 important organs are right at the centre of it. The vet didn’t want to risk possibly damaging them.
If the medication doesn’t do its job, Koda will need a CT scan for full imaging & further testing to be done.
We still don’t know how, what or why this has happened.
I just want my hiking buddy back.
Koda is not insured, and with just having spent 2k on his dental surgery & so far another 1.1k were needing a helping hand… love you all
