Koha for Heeni Hoterene's battle against cancer

Many of you know Heeni for her deep passion and extensive knowledge of Maramataka Māori, and the impact she has made across Aotearoa with her workshops keynote speaking, and tireless advocacy for well being.

She is also known for her strong online presence, where she shares daily updates that uplift and educate, staying connected with whānau and community across the motu. Mama of Karirikura (16), Otane (15), Keteriki (14) and Ouenuku (8). Heeni lives in alignment with her values - embracing organic living, gardening, and off-grid housing - and is committed to a lifestyle that nutures both people and Papatūānuku. Her generosity has touched many, especially those affected by cancer, offering her time, knowledge and support to others walking a similar path.

Five years ago, Heeni was diagnosed with stage 4 endometrial cancer. Recently, she received the heartbreaking news that the cancer has spread to her lung and stomach. Her next phase of treatment involves chemotherapy alongside Keytruda, an immunotherapy drug that is not funded in Aotearoa. The cost of this treatment is an overwhelming $100,000, and while this is only a portion of her overall medical expenses, it is the most urgent need right now. Any koha, no matter the size, will help support Heeni through this next stage of her healing.
