Koha for my Nuts!

  • Rehua is now Reggie

During fundraising, a friend posted a comment that auto-corrected to Reggie, and we thought it was quite a cute 'transliterated' name from Rehua/ Rehi. He seemed to love the happy-go-lucky vibes of it when we tried it.

He also seemed to love the process of being de-sexed - the care he received from the nurses was great- and during his recovery, began to meld with our family . A turning point came when our older, very calm lab x staffy (who had been 'tolerating' Rehi's overwhelming presence and willful nature) one day lay bum to bum with him in the sun for the first time! When Rehua was offered a home from TradeMe advertising, his overwhelm began to rise again, and my own sense was it could send him backwards.

As he'd been showing signs of making such an effort to begin to shift his energy and fit with us, we decided to offer him a permanent home.

And thus, he became a "foster fail" and is now officially called Reggie!

This was a MASSIVE surprise and U-turn for us.

We'd invested time into basic training out of necessity, and I set about getting him to the next level for off leash walks with solid recall - a huge leap for him.

He's very intelligent, absolutely loves ball retrieval (the harder the retrieval, the better), and has learned loads very quickly. He is very cuddly and affectionate and has let go a lot of trauma. - the difference is hard to describe. We are VERY grateful for your support to create a pathway for Reggie for his transition into a new life with us!

  • **Rehua updates**

Rehua was desexed last week and is recovering well, and has been given some probiotics to keep skin itchiness at bay. He's got a 20kg bag of food to keep him going. We hadn't listed vaccinations on the use of funds, but will get these done if we get any more donations before the page closes (we will have $90 left from the givealittle fundraising so we are nearly there).

He's been really softening, settling and integrating more and more each day and it's been wondeful seeing his goofy puppy play come out. He's a big cuddle bum at home. He still gets a bit over excited sometimes but is regulating himself a lot better with each week that goes by.

I have some work and personal trips that need to happen, so we have put word out to find a new foster home (or preferably, his permanent home). Ideally he'd stay here on Waiheke tilll his forever home is found, as I have a car load of gear for him (2x beds, crate, food etc). Any help you can offer with finding him his permanent home or a great foster home would be much appreciated! Please text me if you can help - Ros 022 0772074

  • We met our original goal!

      4 August 2025

We have met our goal in only a few days- we are so pleased! I have extended our goal amount as the vet cost is an estimate only, so it would be nice to have some contingency. Surplus can be used as per directions by Paws A While - either towards Rehi's vaccinations, or towards another foster doggy.

  • Rehua is booked for de-sexing!!

After a roaring start to the givealittle (we only shared on Thursday evening after we got verified), we decided to go ahead and book Rehi for de-sexing this Thursday! Nothing has been forthcoming from SPCA and frankly, we are sick of waiting! We'd like to make this contribution to Rehi's future while he's still with us. So, I've decided to go ahead with de-sexing him here on the island - less travel stress for him and me, and no car ferry cost. If anything does arrive from SPCA, hopefully it can be re-used for another foster doggy. We also have his food bag on its way as we are nearly out!

Thank you SO MUCH for all the really generous donations. And I want to make special mention of Kingi O Aotearoa, who donated so much! The same person who I believe gave a generous donation when Rehua (who was originally also called Kingi) was rescued, which allowed us to buy his first 10kg bag of food and some treats - thank you!

Donations have slowed a little, but we only have $170 or so to reach our target, so if you are able to share to gather a few small (or large) donations, I'd appreciate that! The de-sex cost is just an estimate - I can't get them to fix their price - so it might be nice to have a little buffer... Thanks again everyone!
