Kojak is healing well. The vet is still coming out to check him every week. Hopefully he will be fully recovered by Christmas and can enjoy his holiday. We just need some help paying his vets bills. Every dollar helps. Thank you and Merry Christmas.

  • Kojak is feeling poorly today

      30 November 2024

Kojak was off his food today and feeling a bit miserable. Our lovely vets came out to see him. He seems to have the beginning of an infection so he has started antibiotics alongside his anti inflammatories. Hopefully he will feel better tomorrow. The vet is coming back on Monday to see him. Please help support us - his vet bills are going to be impressive......

Kojak was so pleased to be back home. He was so happy to see his friends again and have long grass to eat ( he can't eat much else at the moment). He will need weekly vet appointments for the next month. Hopefully he is on the road to recovery. Now we just need help paying his medical expenses!

Today he had to have the other tooth out. Kojak loaded on the float well (thanks once again Horsey Chikk!) He shook when he arrived at the vets - so scared poor boy. Hannah and the team at the Waikato Equine Veterinary Centre are taking very good care of him. Home tomorrow afternoon hopefully.

Kojak is going back to the Waikato Equine Veterinary Centre on Monday morning. Horseychikk is kindly floating him there. It will be tough on him having to go back through another procedure but he must be in pain at the moment and we want to see him pain free and happy. He is such an amazingly cool horse. Your donations are really needed and greatly appreciated.

    VETERINARY REPORT

    Re: Kojack

    Owner: Waikato Equitherapy

The aforementioned horse was examined at Waikato Equitherapy on 13 November 2024. The alveolus (dental socket) at 110 extraction site is healing well, although granulation tissue is still forming and packing with a silicone plastic plug was required and ongoing management until further granulation occurs is required. This involves weekly checks and treatments.

Unfortunately the 210 tooth (which had previously been found to have grade 4 out of 5 caries placing it at high

risk of fracture) was found to have fractured. This requires extraction, in same manner as the 110. An estimate has been emailed. We recommend that the surgery to extract this tooth is performed sooner rather than later to reduce risk of further complications, including difficulty eating/weight loss, infection, fistula formation between mouth and sinus etc.

If you have any questions or require further information please do not hesitate to contact me at the clinic.

Kojak has been through a lot. A dental surgery to remove a fractured back tooth that was causing him a lot of pain and making it hard for him to eat. The Waikato Equine Veterinary Centre were amazing.

Kojak got the best of care. He has had a weekly appointment with Dr Hannah to get the cavity cleaned and repacked.

Unfortunately today, it was noticed that the opposite back tooth has also fractured. It was always a risk. Poor Kojak will need another surgery to remove the other back tooth. So tough on this brave horse. We need to start fundraising again - not easy close to Christmas....

  • Kojak has to have his missing tooth cleaned out and repacked until it heals

Kojak was very brave today. He had to have the packing changed where his tooth was removed and the area cleaned out. I hope it heals well and he doesn't need too many more procedures.

  • Kojak is home

      21 October 2024

The Waikato Equine Veterinary Centre looked after Kojak beautifully. A massive thank you to the vet and the vet nurses. It took an hour to remove the split back tooth. Kojak was amazing. He put up with everything including an IV and nerve block. Half the tooth has moved and cut into the side of his mouth. He must have been in a lot of pain but was still so gentle and kind and tried his best to make it easy to treat him. He really wanted to go home but looked at the float and shook. He was so worried about being taken somewhere scary again! Lots of cuddles and scratches and he decided to be brave and walk back on. Thank you for driving him safely home Michelle (Horseychikk's Float Hire) He was so pleased to get home. Atlas was especially delighted to see him back.

  • Kojak is at the vets

Kojak was less than impressed with having to load onto a float. Atlas complained about his bestie leaving and hooned round the paddock. Kojak is at the Waikato Equine Veterinary Centre and should be having his dental surgery soon. He had the best of transport to take him there (Michelle is awesome!) and is in the best of hands. Let's hope it goes well and it doesn't take three hours to remove! I will do an update.

Wish Kojak luck! He hasn't needed to float anywhere for years. Luckily Horseychikks Float hire is generously transporting him to the Waikato Equine Veterinary Centre in style and free of cost. I will update you all on Monday!
