Lake Monowai jetty build & boat ramp restoration.
Monowai, Southland
Southland Fish & Game plan to construct a jetty and restore the boat ramp at Lake Monowai (Fiordland) & we need your help.
This will benefit everyone who visits the lake.
We are asking lake users to consider making a one-off donation toward this project to ensure there is free and practical public access to this beautiful lake for the next ~100years.
The boat ramp has reached the ends of its serviceability and is deteriorating badly. It needs a re-do.
There has never been a jetty at Lake Monowai. A jetty will improve the ease and safety (for both people & vessels) while mooring; to tend to the boat trailer, load/unload and embark/disembark the boat.
Having a level step between a jetty and the boat will improve accessibility for all ages and abilities.
These facilities are on private title owned by Pioneer Energy. Fish & Game has a Right to Occupy Agreement with Pioneer, and will assume ownership and responsibility for the jetty upon completion.
This project has the support & backing of the following groups
- Pioneer Energy Ltd
- Southland Harbour Masters
- Manapouri Boat Club
- Te Anau Boat Club
- Gore Boat & Water Ski Club
- Borland Lodge
- Southland Power Boat Club
- Southland Deerstalkers Association
Fish & Game has all necessary plans, consents and contractors in place.
We are ready to push play on this project when the lake is low, in February or March 2025.
