An epic bike ride along the length of the UK for a great NZ cause - Mercury Bay Cancer Support Trust
On May 12th, Terry Reardon, John McKenzie and Lindsay Campbell will start their third epic ride in as many years. This year they are cycling the length of the United Kingdom, from Lands’ End to John O Groats (LEJOG) - approximately 2,500kms. They will be raising money for the Mercury Bay Cancer Support Trust. They hope to complete the ride in less than 30 days, stopping at historical sites (and pubs) along the way. They do this on traditional (not electric bikes) unaided.
They will stay mainly in pubs and BnB type accommodation, taking time to catch up with old Rugby friends from Terry and John’s rugby playing days in the UK back in the 1980s.
Not only are they trying to raise funds for the Trust, but they are also keen to raise awareness of older men’s health and the importance of leading an active healthy lifestyle. They are all in their mid-60s, ex Rugby players, who have found their next sporting passion on two wheels.
The team lost their good mate Leith Wilson (a long-term Whitianga resident) to cancer in 2019, Leith had a strong passion for biking and had desires of riding the Tour Aotearoa himself before succumbing to his illness. Hence their decision to support the local Mercury Bay Cancer Support Trust
The lads will have a tracker system with them, so you can follow them on their journey, and they will stop off at as many interesting historical sites as they can, off the beaten track and give their take on the site.
Please support these Bike Legends and the Trust.
