Leanne, an amazing teacher at Omokoroa No 1 School, fights to survive a third battle with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia!
Bay of Plenty
Leanne Thompson (nee Sarjant) has been a valued, much loved and highly respected teacher at Omokoroa No 1 School since 2005. She has been battling cancer in various forms over the last 10 years. After undergoing a bone marrow transplant last year, signs were hopeful for a full recovery but sadly the leukaemia has returned. We would like to support Leanne and her husband Gavin at this devastating time, to be able to make choices, whether it be overseas treatment, medical costs or even time spent together.
Chris Broadhurst, the principal of Omokoroa No 1 School and staff and community started this page in support of Leanne and her ongoing cancer battle.
Thank you everyone! 8 June 2016
I am overwhelmed by the amount that everyone has raised! I cannot express how much this means to me and everyone's generosity just blows me away!
On a medical note, I got into remission on my first round of Blinatumomab, and am now currently on my second one.
The next step is getting a hospital in New Zealand to give me a second transplant. Historically, it is not a normal thing here in NZ. The Australian hospital is happy to do it, but cost wise I'd like to do it at home.
For my third round of the Blin they/me would love to do it at home, here in NZ. That is all in the pipeline, so fingers crossed.
I am so happy that I am healthy, and still smiling.
Life is precious!
Thanks to everyone!
