A colourful and beautiful Monarch Butterfly mural to inspire, encourage and give people wings to fly!
Canterbury
The Butterfly Musketeers was founded in 2013 by Maria Romero who is based in Christchurch. Maria's mission is to raise awareness of these beautiful creatures and encourage children to become conscious of their environment around them. She believes that a lot can be learnt from the transformation of caterpillar to Monarch by studying and caring for them. In particular, that studying the lifecycle of a caterpillar at an early age will inspire children (and adults) that they can change into something beautiful too. She has authored a book titled "An Educational Guide on Monarch Butterflies".
This mural design has been chosen as a symbol of hope for children and adults. Maria hopes that every child that sees this monarch butterfly will believe that he or she has the wings to fly and to become anything that they wish.
People will be able to pose in front of the mural so that it looks like they have their own butterfly wings and can get some fun photos! This will also add even more colour to the city whilst complimenting the other murals around the CBD.
The mural will be painted in Spring 2018.
Raising and sharing swan plants for monarch butterflies is an activity that I share with my parents and it brings us a lot of joy each year. I am happy to help Maria by setting up this givealittlepage to raise funds for a Monarch mural as I think that it will bring the beauty of the monarchs to our central city.
The money will be used to pay the artist to paint the mural in Spring 2018.
