Lets help Hamish get the treatment he needs to slow down the growth of his Brain Tumour
Canterbury
I know many of us have been wishing there was a way we could support Hamish, Caroline, Ollie (15yrs) & Jono (14yrs) through Hamish's brain tumour. After talking to them this week, I discovered they are battling with only Caroline being able to work & trying to pay for the 'unfunded' immunotherapy drug Hamish is currently using and now they need to find money for a new Chemo drug available to Hamish. Lets make this possible!!
They discovered on Tuesday that Avastin, an approved immunotherapy drug Hamish is currently taking, will not be funded in NZ. This drug is funded overseas and has promising results so this is extremely frustrating for them. Avastin is a targeted treatment that blocks angiogenesis, a process by which new blood vessels develop in the body. Tumours rely on the formation of new blood vessels to grow, so by blocking angiogenesis, Avastin starves the tumour of blood that it needs to grow.
Hamish's Brain Cancer also has a mutation called IDH1, Hamish has the opportunity to access a promising new 'unfunded' drug, Ivosidenib, this comes with a $62k annual price tag. Lets help alleviate some of the stress for these guys by giving Hamish a chance to spend as much time as possible with his gorgeous family.
