Raising funds to help release some live crayfish on our next trip to Kaikoura!
Marlborough
Hey Guys!
Some of you will know me from the NZ Herald article about when I released a crayfish in Kaikoura! I wasn’t sure whether to do another donation page due to all the negative comments I received, but I also got a few really lovely messages from people showing their support so thank you to those people!
Just to address some comments
1) Yes the crayfish was alive when I released it and not cooked like a lot of people thought it was haha
2) Yes I understand that the crayfish may end up in another craypot or may end up being eaten in the ocean, but at least he got a second chance at life
3) Yes crayfish can go blind if exposed to the sunlight for too long so we were very quick to take a photo and put him into the water. It was also a very rainy cloudy day so the sun wasn’t bright in his eyes
4) And although I wish I was, I am not rich, hence the give a little page 😊
My partner and I will be making our way back to Kaikoura in January, so whatever money is raised will go towards releasing crayfish when we are there! Crayfish prices vary depending on their weight, so depending on how many and what size crayfish they have at the time will determine how many we can release! Closer to the time I am more than happy for your guy’s input on whether we should focus on a couple of larger ones or more smaller ones.
Thank you so much to the people who reached out to me with their support it really means the world to me and to the crayfish!
To purchase live crayfish from a fish and chip shop tank and to release them back into the ocean so they get a second chance at life
