Whetu asks
Urge you all to sign the petition to make rainbowyouth, outlinenz and insideout give up the pinkwashed corporate dollar
Coalition for a truly inclusive Pride
Kia ora anō Whetu,
Not sure if you're aware, but Change.org is majority funded by corporations and is a for-profit company. They are also values-neutral unlike the organisations you have mentioned here who have specific values and kaupapa they uphold.
The majority of the Change.org company's revenue is advertising from businesses who pay to promote their work to folks who sign Change.org petitions.
Cheers,
Laura
Whetu asks
Give all $ to PAPA Its there mahi that stopped the cops They need the $ more than the others NOT even from
Tāmaki Makaurau PAPAs kaupapa needs $ THEY are the ones getting arms broken and bashed not the CIS
Coalition for a truly inclusive Pride
Kia ora Whetu,
Thanks for the comment.
As we have already advertised that we will be putting the power in people's hands to decide what happens with the pūtea after the SGM, we will continue with that plan. But I can assure you that PAPA will definitely be one of the rōpū that people can choose.
Ngā mihi,
Laura
Kirstie asks
I've a small suggestion for the pūtea in the event that the corporate sponsors come back, or are replaced, and the parade goes ahead. I would like to suggest that one of the survey options is that a small amount of funding is allocated to community groups, who would fall under Cat 1 entry, to enable them to participate in the parade.
If Pride is about inclusion, how about including members of the community that currently can't participate under their own banner because the entry fee is a barrier?
Coalition for a truly inclusive Pride
That's a great idea! I will chat to the others in the coalition when we set up the survey about including it as an option.
Thanks Kirstie!

Tara asks
I think those organisations should commit to not accepting corporate cash from now on - otherwise its just hypocritical
Coalition for a truly inclusive Pride
Kia ora Tara,
I totally hear you. Corporations sometimes don't align with our values and mission and that can be really frustrating. Especially when they pull funding and wield power as they have done with Pride.
But sadly, we live in a capitalist world where corporations have a lot more money than community groups working day in day out to do really hard and important work. This fundraiser is an attempt to try and replace some of that corporate funding. But it's still not enough. That's why more and more of us need to hold our workplaces and service providers (bank, phone) to account so that they better align with our values and mission. We need to donate to rainbow causes we care about on a regular basis and support rainbow artists and activists by paying them for their labour - emotional and physical. If all of us did that, I can imagine a world one day where we don't need corporate funding at all. But we're not quite there yet.
It's also important to remember that often community groups engage with the Charitable Trust arms of these businesses that operate as seperate entities with different staff, Directors, missions etc.
Ngā mihi,
Laura
Tara asks
Why are you going to give peoples money to organisations that are in bed with capitalist corporates?
!! Tabby Besley and InsideOUT - Vodafone Foundation Partner's, the Vodafone Out Now survey - July 2018, and the Vodafone World of Difference which pays the salary of the InsideOUT national co-ordinator !!
!! Rainbow Youth - ASB, Mediaworks and the US Embassy !!
!! OUTLine - strategic partner Spark NZ: - January 2018 !!
Coalition for a truly inclusive Pride
Kia ora Tara,
If enough people give to this fundraiser - and to these organisations regularly - then the wonderful work they do wouldn’t need to rely on inconsistent funding from corporate charitable trusts.
We think that makes giving generously to this fundraiser (and those organisations) even more important and necessary!
It's also important to note that the Vodafone New Zealand Foundation which gives out grants is seperate to the business side of Vodafone and the Foundation doesn't have a say over what the business does.
But enough of all that... let’s just work together to try and raise $100k for our amazing rainbow communities eh?
Mary Margaret asks
Thanks for doing this. I’m an ally who watched Toronto Pride go through a similar situation three years ago. In that case it was BLM pointing out the problematic relationship between police and some community members. There was a lot of acrimony there too, but sticking to principles has really helped change the relationship. I greatly admire what the board here is doing to support those on the margins of the community.
My actual question is when will we hear about the SGM outcome and what would be done with the money?
Kia kaha.
Coalition for a truly inclusive Pride
Great question! I have now updated the page to make this clearer for others too.
This Givealittle runs until December 13 but we will send an update about next steps out to everyone who contributes shortly after the SGM which is on Thursday 6 December.

Julie asks
I have a keen interest in democratic process, transparent accountability and inclusion. I choose to wait for the emotive dust to settle, and see if the current board remains, or a new /partial board democratically voted. No petty violence and a safe, well managed civil meeting would be great! I will then happily make a significant donation to this awesome kaupapa and event.
Coalition for a truly inclusive Pride
That makes sense, thanks Julie. This Givealittle runs until December 13 but we will send an update about next steps out to everyone who contributes shortly after the SGM on December 6. Ngā mihi.
Sandy asks
Do all of the people in the images you are using support the Coalition? Have you asked their permission?
Coalition for a truly inclusive Pride
Kia ora Sandy,
Thanks for the question.
At public events, consent to be photographed for fair use is legally implicit. What this means is that people do not have to ask the crowd before taking a photo and using it for something fair (e.g. how we are using it as opposed to for the purposes of harassment and bullying).
Hope that clears things up!
Laura
Krissie asks
To be clear... am I to understand that this fundraising is not aimed at replacing a specific value in corporate funding, but is instead aimed and helping t reclaim Pride for the community and make this Pride the best yet?
And that if the board is disbanded, the funds will instead be split between numerous charities, as voted on by the donors to this fundraiser?
Coalition for a truly inclusive Pride
That is exactly right :)
Ngā mihi,
Laura
Julie asks
No, definitely a question for your group! You state you are fundraising to replace corporate funding with community putea. What is the deficit you actually need to replace to ensure a viable event? Simple math!
Coalition for a truly inclusive Pride
Hey Julie,
I'm sorry but I think you are asking these questions in bad faith so I am not going to answer.
All the best,
Laura
Craig asks
Hey. What if only a couple of the board are stood down. I presume the money raised will still go to the Parade and Festival.
Also which charities will benefit. Outline. RainbowYOUTH. Breaking Boundaries. Which other ones.
Coalition for a truly inclusive Pride
Kia ora Craig,
Great question. We will set up a survey and send it to donors after the SGM to decide together what we do.
These are great suggested charities, thank you!
Ngā mihi,
Laura
Julie asks
What is the actual amount of funds required to replace the 'evil' corporate money that has both saved and sustained this event from extinction? I assume you have done the math, bit naive to not announce the reality?
Coalition for a truly inclusive Pride
Kia ora Julie,
That's probably a question for all the corporations that pulled out, not us!
Cheers,
Laura
aaron asks
Hey for Transparency and to uphold the Kaupapa of Our Rainbow Families Could you please update with the Charities that will be benefitted so we as a community know the Koha put in if not used for the parade Is being used to benefit our Community groups some of which are struggling... i.e Outline etc
Coalition for a truly inclusive Pride
Kia ora, thanks for the question!
The plan is to send a survey to all of the people who have donated to this kaupapa to decide together which groups we donate the pūtea to.
We are committed to being 'of, by and for the people'.
Ngā mihi,
Laura
Julie asks
Why do I get the feeling a small activist group are ruining a fantastic event (remember Hero?) with small minded focus.? If the board is replaced, why redistribute funds? Something is really off with the politics, personalities & division around this situation.... You will run at a loss and sink the event if you continue down this bloody minded track. This group are not representative, hold on to your money!
Coalition for a truly inclusive Pride
Kia ora Julie!
I think we can safely agree to disagree. But thanks for popping in!
Ngā mihi,
Laura
Nathan asks
In the event the board was disbanded, can you please highlight what groups the funding would be donated too?
Coalition for a truly inclusive Pride
Kia ora, thanks for the question!
The plan is to send a survey to all of the people who have donated to this kaupapa to decide together what we do once we know the results of the SGM.
We are committed to being 'of, by and for the people'.
Ngā mihi,
Laura
