…. We are not just moving, we are distributing all furniture and household stuff to friends and family and I’m putting my Aotearoa boxes in storage, then I’m going to live in my van (Dora) whilst I wait for transplant.

The plan was for me to come home, but unfortunately I can’t until I’ve had 12 heart biopsies post transplant so that plan is on hold. I so miss Aotearoa, my family, my friends, and the feeling of being home.

This week my potassium bottomed out, so I ended up in emergency.

Low potassium is a by product of diuretics to help my kidneys along… fluid retention is one of the joys of heart failure.

Whilst I approach my heart failure with humour and I try to remain relentlessly positive, a 24 hour stint of my heart being out of rhythm due to low potassium is quite frankly, exhausting and a little scary,

I’m due up to the Royal Papworth Hospital again on the 21st for another transplant appt so will keep folk posted.

Thank you again for sending me the gift of my Dad being here to organise me and the move.

I hope to pay it forward once I have a ticker that works.

    Aroha, Claire

Kia Ora whanau, and friends who have donated so far.

What you have generously given has meant my Dad has been able to come over and help me though what is a pretty stressful time really.

We are moving house, my kids are leaving home (well, going to live with their dad, along with our dog), I’ve had to re home our cat, which was sad.

It has made such a huge impact having Dad here; I get overwhelmed very easily these days and for him to be here to co ordinate the move (and me!) is huge.

I have amazing humans here who are all coming together to help us move, paint, clean etc and keep us sane. I am very, very lucky to have such beautiful people in my life. My heart splits between my people here and my people at home, but essentially I don’t feel the same lightless here as I do when I step of the plane at home. Now read part 2 update.

We are naturally very anxious about the complications that may happen during heart surgery, and afterwards, but it has also given Claire and us, so much hope for the future. We so want her to come home so that we can look after her in New Zealand and she desperately wants to come home.

In June she met the whole of the transplant team and though the team had to make sure Claire was aware of all their concerns, she very much felt as though she was In safe hands. So professional yet very kind and caring too, she has a whole team wrapped around her.

Claire was hospitalised again to have more fluid removed. Whilst there she also had a mammogram and all her vaccinations were brought up to date. Her last hurdle is to have 2 teeth out and 4 filled. You have to have a clean bill of health dental wise as well as your other organs, liver kidney etc. Claire’s teeth will shortly be attended to under general anaesthetic at the hospital due to the risk of complications. Claire has another appointment at Papworth in August. Thank you again to everyone who has donated.

I must first of all say our heartfelt thanks to the kind donors who have already given so generously, you have lifted all our spirits no end. Finances are a huge and ongoing burden for Claire, through no fault of her own, it has really dragged her down.

Claire has tried so hard to remain positive and upbeat throughout her illness for the sake of her children and ourselves and not wanting to worry or be a burden to anyone.  We are very proud of her and though a transplant is a risk, it is the only way to give her a better quality of life. Her world has become so narrow and restrictive having to spend so much time sleeping or resting at home or in hospital whilst fluid is drained.… read part 2.

  • 💖 Update - please share and donate what you can to help Claire

Claire has recently shared an incredibly honest update about what the next few weeks look like for her. Alongside preparing for a heart transplant, she’s also having to move out of her rental, sell almost everything she owns, and tie up loose ends so she can be free to focus on her health.

Her friends are rallying to help with a garage sale, clearing the house, and getting everything sorted so she can rest and recover in peace. It’s a massive job and she’s doing it all while managing her health.

That’s why this page exists. The funds raised here are going towards taking some of the pressure off - helping cover outstanding bills, and essential living costs while she navigates this huge life moment.

Every donation helps give Claire the breathing room she needs to stay well and strong while she waits for her new heart. Thank you so much to everyone who has donated or shared already. Your kindness means the world. Let’s keep it going. Let’s keep showing Claire just how far love can travel. ❤️ 🙏 much love x Zania
