Eli is an amazing and brave 6 year old boy, in April 2016 he was diagnosed with Infectious Myelitis which has left him paralysed.

My name is Eli Honeysett and I am 6 years old. My home is in Kahutara in the Wairarapa where I live with my twin brother Isaac and little brother Jesse, my Mum and my Dad. In April 2016 I caught a virus and became very ill. I was rushed to hospital where I was diagnosed with Infectious Myelitis. This is a rare condition which has meant I am paralysed and cannot use my arms or legs or breathe on my own any more.
I am a happy boy and have a great smile and a fantastic sense of humour. My Mum and Dad say I am clever and brave. I am grateful that I understand what people are saying and over the last few months have come a long way with my communication, from blinking then mouthing words to now being able to talk around my trache most of the time.
One day soon I hope I will be able to go home and live with my family. My home will have been specially adapted for me. Before that can happen a lot of things need to be sorted and we need to raise some money to help change things at home and to buy a special van that has a ramp and can take my wheelchair.
Thank you for reading this, I hope you will be able to help me a little bit and in return I promise to keep smiling and trying my best.
Eli
A word from Eli's Mum and Dad:
In April last year our son Eli was struck with a rare neurological condition called Infectious Myelitis. He was at school playing with friends on the Friday and then on full life support 3 days later.
Eli is still an amazing kid but sadly he is now completely unable to move his body or breathe on his own. He was in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at New Zealand’s Starship Hospital for 10 months until recently when we returned to our local hospital where he is currently staying.
Eli blows us away with his patience, sense of humor and kind spirit.
We were completely shattered by the sudden illness of our amazing wee boy. We have watched as he has recovered over the last eleven months in hospital and will seek every possible avenue to give him the best chance in spite of his paralysis. We will try everything to get him the best possible chance to learn and contribute in life, but cannot do it alone. We need the specialists who can help us to get him equipment to learn and hopefully move in someway.
We don't look at statistics or time-scales but we do pray for Eli to be well again despite his future being so unknown. Once he is ready we hope Eli will be able to move back home with us. We just need your support to help us to create the facilities that Eli will need.
If you feel able to help us to achieve this by donating whatever you can please do so. Each donation means so much and we are ever so grateful. Eli means the world to us, and if you ever met him you would understand in an instant why.

My name is Samantha Hill and I am Eli's Aunty. I have created this page so that family, friends and other amazing people are able to show their support to Eli and his family.
The funds raised from this page for Eli will go towards a special mobility vehicle able to transport him, renovations around his home to allow access fo his chair and equipment and to facilitate areas for his cares, as well as on-going costs and support.
Home and back to school 19 February 2018
Wow, so many generous donations and kind messages. We cannot thank people enough for all of their contributions. Eli has now returned home and loving being part of normal family life, he has even started back at school with all the other kids at the start of the term.
We are still raising money for a van so that we can get Eli around. Now that he is home this is even more important as he needs to travel to school and to appointments. Eli has kindly been loaned a van until the family can get one of their own but he is quickly growing too big to access this van and cannot take his power chair in it. Please continue to help us on this journey to make Eli's life at home as good as possible and transport to school, appointments and events possible.
