      17 March 2025

Well hamz has been my home 4 10 weeks on tuesday and I've started on phase 2 of the overall plan which isn't quite as Grim or intense and goes for a week .... but there is 6 of them with recovery time in between. Some wins.... I have put on 2kg during treatment, can now walk again 1km albeit slowly, I have knitted almost a third of the blanket and I gave discovered that the green whistle is amazing for lumberb punctures but equally they can make u say inappropriate things . ...... recovery time now ...... nga mihi

To nicky n tina who have been my "constants' angels. To those that have cooked for me my thanks for the taste of home. To ailsa and Ann who have encouraged me in the long lost days and nights. Thanks to Lisa for setting up the give a little page and to those who have given. I'm going to take a few days off here to enjoy the last days b4 i head back to hospital for round two and to keep waking to build my strength and sleeping to recover from the good food n exercise. I really just wanted to say thanks x

  • 2 weeks in the lodge

      27 February 2025

today marks 2 weeks in the lodge and im a slowly getting stronger - its also 12 days til i head back to hopsital to do the next round of chemo. Yesterday I got to go to the Base and invest in some walking shoes as I have one pair of jandals with me - so I am supported in the daily walks, they are getting a bit longer each day and including some inclines - my calf muscles are welcome back any time! Back to the hospital for twice weeky bloods today - managing the process of shuttles / orderlies etc better, and then it is the weekend again, if anyone wants to visit before the next round let me know. Once the chemo starts again i will be really limited due to infection (again). On that I have a sinus infection but am on anti bitotics for that - yay another pills to add to the pile. Yesterday was also a trip to auckland to discuss stem cell stuff - overwhelming so am back to focussing on one day at a time

  • One week in the lodge

      19 February 2025

Tommow marks one week at the lodge and thanks to endless sleeping and nourishing food I feel a little stronger. I can now walk without furniture and today managed a small flight of steps . Hospital appts are tricky coordinating shuttles orderlies and timing so I hope that gets easier with practice. All going well I may be able to have a visitor Monday avo ( must be well tho)..... warning tho..... im liable to fall asleep.

    Ruth's Birthday week

Morena koutou, ive woken from the fog of a couple of tuff days and am dunking biscuits in milo. The team tried new nausea medsto no avail so plan b.... this week brings a lumber puncture in the bone marrow to see how far we have come in the first cycle. And on the upside for a few days I get to eat food from the *outside* .... yesterday I scoffed a date scone far too fast ...... it appears. If my bloods hold this week I may be allowed a couple of mid week visitors.... it's a bit of a day by day thing. We'll its drac time (daily boods). My love, hugs and thank you for being there in my village x, ♥️

  • Update from Ruth 5 weeks into treatment

    Main image

well yesterday i joined the 'hat club'. Wasnt as bad as I thought and the nurse did a great job. The hosp/govt give you an option of hats/wigs etc so i went grey and black merino, and it was snuggly to sleep in.

Tuesday is lumber puncture day and chemo put directly into spinal fluid so not my favorite day, but there you have it. On the upside I have ordered spaghetti on toast for breakfast - its the small things
