Levi is more than a bird - he’s proof that broken things can heal with love and commitment
Auckland
Five months ago I rescued 35 year old Levi (somewhat by accident) as I couldn’t raise the money for his purchase. Long story short he was given to me and so the journey of his recovery begins. Even though I had previous experience with large parrots I had no idea what I was in for. Firstly he suffered with bad separation anxiety which has dissolved with many hours each day of dedicated reassurance. Then discovered a few weeks later a worsening limp which turned out to be grade 3/4 bumble-foot (ulcerated feet). My daughter gave me money to get him checked at an Avian vet. Along with extended courses of antibiotics, pain relief, intense daily feet treatment, padded perches and endless tlc he finally seemed to be beating this. Over the next few months he learned to trust me and we formed a bond. Roll forward to recent days when he started limping again even though the ulcers were starting to shrink. Through my tears I rung the vet to book an urgent appointment, not even knowing how I was going to pay for it. The doctor checked him and said his condition was ok considering the damage to his feet but then I should prepare to euthanise him in the near future. In shock, tears flowing once again at reception I had an absolute angel pay for our visit. With this I decided Levi is worth fighting for if a complete stranger believes in him then we’re not giving up. The next step is diagnostic tests and X-ray, follow up appointments. Please help me save Levi. Any amount is a huge blessing.
Diagnostic tests alone exceed $1200. The money will be for Levi’s care, vet visits and nutritional food to aide in his healing
