LIFE SAVING HOPE FOR MICHAELA

My name is Michaela Hope I am 19 years old , I live with my mum and younger sister in Auckland City. I have been sick now for 9 years and I have been in and out of hospital since age 10 with terrible life changing symptoms.

Some of these are:

Excruciating headaches and pain in the back of my neck

Lower back tissue swelling that causes extremely bad pain

Immense fatigue

Very bad short term memory

Loss of balance and hand eye coordination

Swallowing issues which leads to VERY scary choking when I'm eating or drinking

Bladder issues

Muscle weakness...

All of these symptoms are affecting my whole life and family and friends around me

I spend most of my time at home and if I do go out for short periods of time, this comes at a huge cost to me.

Since I was ten years old I was a medical mystery until a year ago when we found out I had a Chiari Malformation of the brain which is life threatening, we were shocked but relieved we had found an answer to a lot of my symptoms.

We found out recently I also have tethered cord and retroflexed odontoid and the health system here in New Zealand can not help me or do the life saving spinal surgery I need. This surgery is not a cure but it will help to decrease my symptoms and eliminates the risk of sudden death.

The only place in the world that does the "Filum system" which is the surgery I need is in Barcelona Spain. The full surgery plus the essentials I need for surgery will cost us approximately 80,000.

Of course there is no way on a sickness benefit I could fund myself to get there and my family is not wealthy.

This illness is progressive and is progressing fast and if I don't get this surgery soon my symptoms could become permanent.
