Liv to Swim Lake Wanaka: 44km for Fresh Water Conservation & Future Generations of Swimmers
Wanaka, Otago
Swimming has always been a part of my life, and over the years, the water has taught me about resilience, dedication, and community. This February, I will take on the greatest challenge of my career: a 44km (27 miles) swim, the length of Lake Wanaka, to raise funds for freshwater conservation and the our next generation of swimmers.
I’ve chosen to support two organizations.
First, I am raising money for WAI Wanaka, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to ensuring the health of our water and the wellbeing of our community for future generations. Their mission is to empower local communities to understand their environment, recognize their impact, and take meaningful action to protect our freshwater. The team works closely with individuals, catchment groups, landowners, councils, businesses, community groups, and schools to enhance ecosystem health, reverse biodiversity loss, and keep our water pristine.
Secondly, I’m supporting my local swim club. While coaching at the Wanaka Swim Club, I found my first sense of community in New Zealand. This swim is about more than just the distance. It's about inspiring the next generation of swimmers to take on their own challenges, whether that’s swimming a few laps or one day tackling a 44km swim. I hope this journey shows them that with hard work and dedication, anything is possible.
Every contribution will help protect our freshwater resources and support the swim club’s work in developing young swimmers. Thank you for being here.
I'm involved with both WAI Wanaka and the Wanaka Swim Club — as a supporter of WAI's mission to protect our freshwater resources and as a coach with the Swim Club, where I’ve seen firsthand the positive impact on local youth through the sport of swimming.
This money will be split evenly between the two organizations.
