Fundraising for the emergency accommodation at Livingwaters Church and the septic system upgrade.
Auckland
Livingwaters is the only emergency housing provider on Waiheke, however to support going housing needs the site has to overhaul the septic system. LWC has received a compliance notice from the AK Council compliance team with an initial cost of $30,000 for resource consent and $150-170,000 for septic system installation.
Many people who find their way to our doorsteps at LWC are often in crisis or at their last point of hope. Short Term Emergency housing is an essential service to the Waiheke community. As a result LWC will have to close it's support to the community for emergency accommodation. There are currently 22 residents utilising the services.
LWC is the only emergency housing agency on Waiheke Island and have been providing this service for the past 7 years.
Money raised will go towards the resource consent for the waste water system and contribute to the system itself
We’ve met out goal thanks to YOU!!! Hi Dave, firstly my apology for the inordinate delay in responding to you. My board and I were stunned and are still coming to terms with the significant donation you have so generously sown. We are touched beyond words and greatly humbled. Secondly, it is a real privilege to do the work that we do and even though we have and will continue to face challenges, it is all worth it at the end of the day to provide support to those who for many reasons find themselves in dire need. With your help and that of others who donated to the Givealittle page we can now pay for, and lodge, our “resource consent application”. This will include a plan to upgrade our current septic system and develop an affordable, sustainable, safe, quality and caring program which can house up to 20 -25 people in a range of crisis, transitional and long-term accomodation, at any time. We are commited to this vision and although it may take some time we would love to report back to you on how things are getting on, if that is okay? Once again, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your truly kind and generous gift. Warmest regards Wiremu Te Taniwha Manager - Waiheke Hope Centre and Pastor of Waiheke Livingwater’s Church
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts Shirley! We so appreciate the people (yourself included) who have generously donated to our GIVEALITTLE page. It was humbling to see that people we knew and those we didn’t showing their appreciation and expressing their support by giving financially. As you will know we had set an initial goal of raising $30,000 to enable us to lodge our resource consent application with the council. After four days from the launch of our page we were heartened and excited to receive close to $2.5k in donations. This amount stayed the same for almost a month until Sunday 5th of April when we were both shocked, amazed and in awe to receive a staggering and significant gift from an anonymous donor, which basically saw us meet our goal. Over the past 7 years with no government funding, a constant battle and balancing act to keep our service open we have continued to provide crisis, emergency, transitional and long-term support to over 350 people, eighty five percent of those being Waiheke locals. From the same facility that is desperately needing to be renovated and upgraded we have provided the only “free weekly community soup kitchen meal” for the past 6 years. This service has had a regular attendance of 30 – 50+ people who have enjoyed a delicious 3-course meal lovingly prepared and served for them by our dedicated resident and community volunteers. Likewise, this venue has hosted many individuals and whanau (families) who have sought refuge, support, encouragement, pastoral care and resourcing through difficult and challenging situations and circumstances. It goes without saying that there is a real and genuine sense of community amongst those who reside there, and it is a “last resort” for many who are broken, lonely and experiencing homelessness. Because of your help and generosity, we can take the next step towards our vision of securing resource consent, making the necessary upgrades and improvements and building a community facility that caters to the support, care and needs of whanau and individuals requiring crisis, transitional and long-term accommodation. We can’t thank you all enough, and we look forward to sharing some milestones with you as we press on towards this goal. Many thanks and God Bless!
