Mangawhai teacher loses her home and possessions in landslide.
Mangawhai, Northland
On Friday 24th February 2023, during the Mangawhai Floods, Jackie Fanning, a teacher at our local school, lost everything. The hillside behind her home gave way and destroyed her home.
She made it out barely with only the clothes she had on!
Her home was ripped from its piles and spun around to land on her van. Jackie is currently staying with her family while she recovers from the trauma.
Jackie is a valued member of the Mangawhai community. She is not only a loved teacher (Whaea Jackie) at the local primary school, she also runs and promotes environmental education for our children and their families. She is an active member of our Waka Ama Group - teaching teenagers and adults the joy of sportsmanship and teamwork on the water. Jackie is also a cherished member of Marunui Conservation, a true kaitiaki, who dedicates countless volunteer hours to protecting the native species in this area.
We would love to help Jackie rebuild her home, which she has worked so hard for, and help replace her lost belongings and vehicle.
Please support us in supporting a beautiful lady who gives so much to others daily.
Disclosure: Jackie has vehicle, home and contents insurance. But she is going to need more than what this will cover.
Rebuilding her home, replacing her possession and car.
Thank You 1 April 2023
Thank you so much for all your generosity. We appreciate all your aroha for our beloved friend. Times are still fraught and busy for Jackie dealing with the red tape that goes along with her demolition etc. but she is slowly gaining her easy loving smile back. Every cent is and will be received with immense gratitude. We are so close to the target of $50k. Let’s get across that line!
Nui te aroha me te whakaute
