Title: Lua set to represent Samoa at the women’s rugby World Cup in England
Hi, my name is Lua Tugaga 23yrs old n play halfback for Marist St Pats Womens rugby team. In 2023, I dislocated and broke a bone in my right shoulder that lead me to have an operation in March last year. I have been working hard this past year to get back onto the rugby field and managed to play this season back at MSP Premier Women’s. As well as being named in the Wellington Pride wider squad for FPC-I have also been selected back into the Manusina squad to trial for the upcoming Rugby World Cup in England in Aug/Sep 2025
I am set to leave Wellington around this month (17/18 July) to head to Auckland for the trials. Then heading over to Samoa for more trainings and the final squad naming. If selected, I will be headed over to Fiji once again for a test match against the Fijian women’s team. After the test match, the journey to England for the WC will begin.
I absolutely love being part of Manusina team. Every day, I feel inspired by our shared values- determination, respect, cultural pride and FAITH IN GOD. Representing Samoa with the Manusina isn’t just about playing rugby, it’s about embracing our heritage, supporting each other like family, and striving together toward excellence.
As a Pacific team we all know the struggle of having to take time off work to represent our country & work towards our dreams. So the funds will go towards helping me out financially whilst travelling with the team and being off work without pay.
