I am preparing my Contessa 32, Nerissa K, and myself to compete in the Solo Trans-Tasman Yacht Challenge. This race is contested every four years and is the second-oldest continuously-run single-handed ocean race in the world. It is also the only race of its kind in the southern hemisphere. The 2023 race will cover 1240 nautical miles, from New Plymouth Yacht Club, Taranaki, New Zealand to Southport Yacht Club, Gold Coast, Australia. This will be my first solo ocean crossing and I am excited and nervous in equal measure. I am the only female skipper entered on one of the smallest boats.
Use of funds
Money raised will be spend on new rigging, storm sails, personal locator beacons, and all safety equipment. I will use any money I can raise towards the safety features of my boat, whether I achieve the target set or not as I am committed to the race.
