Lynne Riachs Cancer Treatment
Canterbury
My Mum (Lynne 54) was Diagnosed with stage 3 endometrial cancer on the 13th December while visiting Australia. While she was in Australia she had two blood transfusions and and an iron infusion.
My two sisters and I (plus children) were feeling down but were told the odds were good so we stayed as positive as we could until Lynne underwent surgery to remove it.
Lynne had surgery on the 7th February In Christchurch Woman’s Hospital where she had a Radical Hysterectomy also called Wertheim’s Hysterectomy which involves your whole Womb, Cervix, Fallopian tubes, Ovaries and Lymph glands being removed. The operation was thought to be a success.
With a short stay in hospital Lynne was excited to get home to Timaru (which is approximately 180km south of Christchurch) were she could rest in her own bed and be with family.
On the 17th of February Lynne had a routine doctors visit to get the 16 Staples removed. With the wound not healing they decided to only remove 4 staples. Later that day the staples tore which meant Lynne visited the hospital to get extra taping to hold everything in place.
22nd Of February was Lynne’s follow-up appointment in Christchurch with the surgeons to see what the next step would be. Being told the surgery went well we were expecting only to have a couple of Radiation treatments and all would be fine.
Unfortunately we didn’t expect the worse. It has spread into her Lymph nodes. Lynne will have 5 weeks of radiation treatment 5 days a week (starting in 3 weeks) in Christchurch away from her family. After this she will have Chemotherapy all the while trying to stay positive she can beat this when the odds are not in her favour.
Lynne is unable to work and has living cost/ treatment costs to also think about while away fighting this nasty disease. Her partner was laid off work at the end of February and is currently picking up work when available.
Please help if you can. I know not everyone is in the position to help but anything will help my mum stress a little less.
I wish my Mum well stay strong you are a beautiful person and I can’t wait to spend many more years with you. xxx
