Please help keep our pool open! Our much loved swimming pool is now 47 years old and is in urgent need of refurbishment.

The Macandrew Bay pool has been used all summer, every summer for nearly 50 years. But now it is failing to meet health & safety standards and we need to fix it.

Living so close to the sea it's vital that our children learn to swim and how to stay safe in and on the water. The school pool has been the perfect place for this to happen for generations of local families.

We want to keep this fantastic and important community asset open, but the school and the community are going to have to work together to raise enough money to keep the pool functioning.

After taking expert advice we have a list of improvements that are needed to bring the pool up to standard. The most important priorities are to improve the water quality, upgrade the filtration system and re-surface the pool surround to make it non-slip and safe. (Click on 'Gallery' to see pool photos)

We are applying for lots of grants - but to be successful the community needs to raise a third of the money required. As well as money raised from this page we have lots of other fundraising initiatives underway to help reach our target of $30,000.

The Macandrew Bay School Board of Trustees are determined to keep our school pool open and are coordinating the whole refurbishment project.

About us

Our school has been an important part of the Macandrew Bay community since it was established in 1859. We are a semi rural school, set in the picturesque satellite suburb of Macandrew Bay on the Otago Harbour.

We value our location on the Otago Peninsula with its rich diversity of historical human settlement,natural beauty and unique wildlife.

We have a school pool that the children love to learn to swim in and swimming is an important part of our Term 1 programme.

Our mission statement is ‘Simply the best for our children’. We believe that our children deserve an excellent education. We aim to be the best we can be and we have high expectations that students attending our school will be successful, happy, confident learners.
