The Living in repentance for forgiveness, the deceased buried in the great love
Auckland
Please join us and comfort the grieving hearts of a noble family.
In 2014, Chinese man Xingyu Shang drove drunk on Flat Bush's Chapel Rd, New Zealand, and hit Luke MacKenzie in a head-on collision. The two vehicles were seriously damaged. After the accident, the driver fled, while MrMacKenzie died at the scene.
Mr MacKenzie, 23, had just been promoted to driving manager at Air New Zealand parking and on the day of the crash it was his mother's birthday. Just a few minutes after leaving home, the tragedy occurred.
In one moment, the accident shattered the world of a happy family forever. His mother's birthday became the anniversary of her eldest son’s death, his father lost an outstanding son, siblings lost their kind and generous brother, his girlfriend of many years lost her soul mate. A young man who was devoted to the cause of his dream, with a life full of expectations, who carried responsibility and was committed to his fiancé, was unexpectedly lost.
With the agony suffered by the grief-stricken family and friends left behind, there are only the endless memories of him for the rest of their journey through life.
Two years of legal battles were grave and torturous for both families. In the end Mr MacKenzie’s parents made the ultimate gesture. They said that though Xingyu Shang ended Luke’s life and destroyed his family’s happiness, causing them irreversible trauma, they chose against venting their anger and revenge - they did not want Xingyu Shang sent to prison. They won’t let hatred dominate their life, or destroy Xingyu Shang’s life, so they chose to use forgiveness to bridge the gap between different cultures, to overcome hatred by great love, in order to give peace to their eldest son in heaven, and to move on in life.
Consequently, Xingyu Shang was sentenced to nine months of home detention. After the completion of home detention, he will be sent back to China.
Probably no one else could truly understand their grief when the MacKenzies made such a decision. Their benevolence preserves much hope for Xingyu Shang’s life. Their action in goodwill brought so much grace to the two unfortunate families.
We share the same blue sky overhead and the same piece of land under our feet. If more people are willing to embrace a strong, benevolent mind and bury the hatchet to mend the hurt caused, this world will be rid of meaningless hatred and become a more harmonious, beautiful and grateful society.
We thank the MacKenzies for giving us the positive energy to make this a better society. In return, we ask all enthusiastic advocates of love, whose hearts are touched by the generosity and benevolence of this couple, to give this unfortunate family a little donation as a token of your spiritual and emotional support.
In this, we sincerely send for the initiatives: Please take action and make them feel the love to help them through these difficult times of life. Pay tribute to the world's greatest tolerance. We all hope to give a little warmth of love to help this family shine again.
